Baseline guidelines for hygiene
Foundational Health SeriesLet's breakdown hygiene into a few different categories:
- Household Hygiene
- Personal Hygiene
- Dental Hygiene
- Sleep Hygiene (refer to the Sleep Optimization section)
Household
Think about all the cleaners that you're using throughout your home (floors, windows, counters, toilets, etc). Many of these products contain toxic chemicals that you're inhaling or coming in contact with.
Personal
Related to the Detoxification section - double check that all products you're applying to your skin or hair have low toxicity scores on ewg.org. This includes soaps, shampoos, hair gels, lotions, etc.
Dental
Baseline: with your new and improved diet rid of sugar and refined carbs (see Diet & Nutrition), your teeth are going to be much happier! Brushing at least twice a day, and flossing at least once a day is still highly recommended. Some other recommendations:
- Try toothpaste brands without fluoride, such as Superteeth
- Avoid toothpaste that has the disclaimer, "toxic if swallowed"
- Use toothpaste with hydroxyapatite (HA), which is essential for bone regeneration
- Consider getting any metallic fillings or caps replaced by a biological dentist as ceramic fillings can be toxic and existing root canals may cause significant health problems (joint pain, headaches, inflammation)
